I began learning on MetaTrader when I started trading. This platform is mostly used in CFD trading but there are some FCMs that allow you to use it to trade futures and I am fortunate to be able to use with 2 of my personal accounts. There isn't alot of support for MetaTrader in the Futures space outside of these FCMs and virtually none in 3rd party tools like trade copiers but I hope that changes as the industry progresses.
I've not needed to reach out to their support for anything but they are very open to feedback and suggestions. They don't confirm that they have received your input but next thing you see the platform has been updated with what was requested. They have user forums, a nice marketplace, and resources to learn their code base so you can make your own indicators and expert advisors. In general their articles and being able to speak with people, mainly the marketplace indicator creators have contributed alot to my trading knowledge.
As someone who thought I had to leave MetaTrader to trade futures props, I can say that although this platform looks outdated and gets ragged on in CFD, it's actually really well thought out. It's one of the only platforms that have Web Browser(not limited to Chrome only functionality), Android and iOS Mobile Applications, Desktop Software for both Mac and Windows. The closest I've come to replicating my ideal trading workspace in futures is with the MotiveWave platform which has everything except the Web Browser component.
